Soalheiro Granit is an Albariño variety white wine produced by Quinta de Soalheiro in the DOC Vinho Verde (Minho).
Quinta de Soalheiro is a small family winery located in the north of Portugal (Melgaço) and known for being one of the country’s leading producers of Albariño wines. Founded by João Antonio Cerdeira in 1982 and currently managed by his son Luis, it is in a privileged location that allows them to create elegant wines with a great mineral profile at a really surprising price.
The Soalheiro Granit vineyards are protected by a mountain range. A characteristic that provides an ideal microclimate for ripening Albariño berries. They are filled with 25-year-old strains planted on granitic soils with high acidity, at an altitude of over 150 metres above sea level. The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes are immediately taken to the winery in small boxes.
Once in the winery, the grapes are pressed and the Soalheiro Granit must is decanted for 48 hours at a low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature somewhat higher than usual for a white. It goes through batonages and ages on lees.
Soalheiro Granit is a white wine that shows off the full minerality of a location with a perfect microclimate for the Albariño variety.
