Siós Cau del Gat is a red wine from Costers del Segre prepared by Costers del Sio. This wine is a blend of syrah, tempranillo and garnacha.

The grapes are selected from the best vineyards of the winery, planted in 1998 at 300 metres. Clusters of Siós Cau del Gat are harvested in small boxes of 18 kilos so that the weight of the grains does not crush the fruit and cause premature fermentation. Small vibrating trailers for the same purpose are also used.

After harvesting, a process of selection and cold pre-fermentation is performed to extract all the flavour of the grapes.

Subsequently, alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks. Each variety undergoes this process separately.

Siós Cau del Gat is covered for about four weeks at controlled temperatures with several pumpings and destemmings.

Finally, Siós Cau del Gat undergoes a 9-month aging in French oak barrels of 300 litres. The final blend is produced before bottling.

The 71 hectares of Costers del Sio vineyards grow on land that was owned by the Counts of Urgell until 1413.

The winery owners claim that, thanks to their love for this land, they tend the vines as if they were jewels.

When we refer to the DO Costers del Segre we think of wines with a continental character, which in some respects is true, but extensive replantation of international grape varieties means that the majority of wines produced here lack a geographical or territorial trademark, even though the vast majority of the wines are technologically perfect. However, there are currently wineries such as Mas Blanch i Jové, Costers del Sio, L’Olivera, Lagravera and Thomas Cusiné, among others, who concentrate their effors on producing wines with what are considered varieties native to the region. However, the majority of this region is still dominated by classic international varieties.
