Santa Cruz de Artazu is a red wine made by Artazu wineries in Navarra.
Bodegas Artazu is one of the wineries that make up the group known as Artadi. Santa Cruz de Artazu is a varietal Grenache. In 1996 Artadi acquired some old vines of more than 60 years old in the town of Artazu, a town with a great wine tradition located in the northernmost area of Navarra.
The vines are planted on white clay-limestone soil between 400 and 600 meters above sea level. Poor soils, together with a harsh climate, offer a high quality grape. Artazu winery uses environmentally friendly techniques, without the use of herbicides or pesticides.
The harvest is done manually in small boxes of 15 kg. Once in the winery, a selection of fruits and grains takes place The vinification process takes place in open tanks with a cold maceration lasting 48 hours and fermentation lasting 10-12 days, the grapes are also trodden on a daily basis.
Santa Cruz de Artazu is aged for 12 months in 500 litre French oak barrels. It is a wine that can be consumed now or after 15 years under optimal conditions.
The palate is powerful, tasty and very pleasant. There is a strong presence of red and black fruit with spices. Long finish with balsamic sensations.
Cherry coloured with violet edges, middle layer with a fine tear.
Very elegant nose. Fresh and ripened red and black fruits, well-coordinated. Certain spicy and milky notes. There are also roasted flavours, balsamic and some memories of leather and undergrowth.
