Roberto Voerzio Barolo La Serra is an organic single-variety Nebbiolo red wine produced by Azienda Agricola Roberto Voerzio, in the DOCG Piedmont in Italy.
The vineyards where the Roberto Voerzio Barolo La Serra grapes grow are southeast facing and lie at an altitude of 335 to 410 metres, in the town of La Morra. The “La Serra” estate is known for having one of the best vineyards in the area, which produces tannic and structured wines.
The strains, which are around 35 years old, are carefully pruned to ensure low, but high-quality yields of approximately 500 grams of fruit per plant. The vines are harvested manually in late September and early October. The grapes ferment with their native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and the resulting wine ages for 24 months in used French oak barrels and in large 1,500-litre wooden barrels known as “botti”. Then the wine goes through eight months of aging in tanks and eight more months of resting in the bottle before being sold. The wine is not clarified or filtered.
The Azienda Agricola Roberto Voerzio is a young winery founded in 1986 and is run by Roberto Voerzio, an admired Piedmont producer who works his vineyards with minimal intervention and with extremely low yields. This allows him to produce great wines of exquisite quality. These wines, now sought-after by every wine lover, have seen Roberto Voerzio gain international recognition.
