Characteristics Rico - Nuevo Albillo Real
Rico-Nuevo Albillo Real is a white wine made in barrels with the native Albillo variety in the D.O. Cebreros (Castila y León) by Rico-Nuevo Viticultores.
Juan Andrés Martín Pérez, known as Juanan, is a young winegrower who set up his project in the increasingly famous Sierra de Gredos, with the aim of promoting the area’s traditions. Under the name Rico-Nuevo, the nickname given to his great-grandfather in the town of Burgohondo, this winery focusses on promoting old vines, the granite terroir and ancient winemaking methods.
The Rico-Nuevo Albillo Real wine comes from a place called “El Diezgal”. These are old vines planted on granite soil that are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested by hand.
In the winery, the Rico-Nuevo Albillo Real grapes are meticulously selected and pressed, then macerated with skins for 12 hours. Fermentation takes place cold and then the wine ages with its lees in centuries-old barrels. It is not filtered or clarified before bottling, so it may contain sediment.
Made with the most common white variety in the Sierra de Gredos, Rico-Nuevo Albillo Real is an ode to tradition. A white wine with wonderful tension and freshness.
