The Raimat Castle, a 12th century marvel of Arab origin, was acquired by the Raventós wine family (Codorniu) in 1914 and was in ruins at the time, having been caught up in the “Guerra dels Segadors” (Reapers’ War). It was Manuel Raventós i Domènech who decided to rebuild the castle, including building a winery and converting the 3,200 hectares of barren land into fertile soil for planting vines. In fact, the winery was the first reinforced concrete building to be built in Spain and they took on the castle’s ancient coat of arms: a bunch of grapes (in Catalan raïm) and an outstretched hand (in Catalan mà). This led to the creation of Raimat, the first brand to produce quality wines in the region and the people responsible for creating the Costers del Segre Denomination of Origin (Catalonia) in 1983.
Raimat is undoubtedly an expression of the wines of Lleida (Catalonia) and their Raimat Abadía Rosat is one of their flagship wines. Made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo grapes in an entirely continental climate, it is made with a commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture. The grapes are harvested at night, taking advantage of lower temperatures and quickly, to preserve the qualities of the fruit. When the grapes reach the winery, they are selected and destemmed. After a gentle pressing, the free-run juice is used to make the wine. Vinification is carried out at 14ºC in stainless steel tanks.
The result is very pleasing. Raimat Abadía Rosat is not only one of the wines that best describes Raimat’s talent, but it is also a true ambassador of the D.O. Costers del Segre.
Raimat Abadía Rosat 2020 is a fresh rosé wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit like strawberry and raspberry. On the palate it is light, fresh and pleasant. A wine with marked acidity, a fruity and expressive mid-palate and a long finish.
In a unique environment, Raimat is a pioneer farm in cultivation and oenological technologies, which have led it to classify its 2,245 hectares in individual plots, treated one by one according to their unique features. Nowadays, Raimat is one of the most important winegrowing research and development centres in Spain. It is also a figurehead of sustainability and environmental programmes, which it uses to offer high-quality wines and cavas with a unique personality, made exclusively with grapes from their own farm, always with maximum respect and conservation of the environment.
