Rabasco Cancelli Rosato

When we think of a free spirit we imagine a carefree person who wants a simple life and who might even run away from responsibility. However, that is not the case with the person we are talking about. Quite the opposite. This person has the courage to experience life to the full, accepting the consequences and learning from every situation. A definition that perfectly suits Iole Rabasco, a new generation Italian winemaker who, when she inherited the Rabasco family estate in the town of Pianella, in the heart of Abruzzo, not only dared to try everything, but also asked for advice from her friend and fellow minimal interventionist Danielo Marcucci from the Della Staffa winery. The result of this work can be seen in a great collection of wine, produced in limited quantities and named after the plots of land each one comes from.

Rabasco Cancelli Rosato is one of the Rabasco wines that belongs to the IGT Abruzzo. It comes from a plot located next to the entrance of the estate called Cancelli (door in Italian). These are old Montepulciano vines grown in calcareous and clay soils only 40 km from the Adriatic coast and at an altitude of 450 metres. Cultivation is strictly organic, following biodynamic guidelines and using ancient methods. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand and, once they reach the winery, they are vinified following ancient methods. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks with a short skin-contact maceration. No chemicals are used and the wine ages for a few months in fibreglass tanks. Finally, it is bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphites.

The result is very charismatic. Like its creator, Rabasco Cancelli Rosato is a very pleasant surprise. This is a free-spirited, somewhat wild and beautifully authentic rosé wine.
