Characteristics Quinta da Serradinha Tinto
Quinta da Serradinha Tinto is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by the Quinta da Serradinha winery in the Vinho regional de Lisboa denomination (Portugal) with the Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Castelão native varieties.
Situated an hour north of Lisbon, Quinta da Serradinha is a very old estate lying 18 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. Fine wines have been traditionally produced here for more than a thousand years, but when the current manager and winemaker António Marques da Cruz took over, he converted fully to using organic agriculture.
Quinta da Serradinha Tinto comes from old vines planted in limestone, sand and clay soils. These are arid terroirs that are offset by the humidity of the Atlantic winds. As the first wine estate in Portugal to receive ecological certification, they do not use any chemicals that could harm the natural balance of the soil.
In the winery, the Quinta da Serradinha Tinto grapes are destemmed and trodden before vinification. They undergo a relatively short maceration, then fermentation with no temperature control. Finally, the wine is aged in 225-litre French oak barrels for 24 months.
Since the very beginning, Quinta da Serradinha Tinto has been a red wine that has gone beyond oenological standards. Vinous and authentic with a unique profile.
