Qué Bonito Cacareaba is a white wine produced by Bodega Contador in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Bodega Contador is the much awaited personal project of Benjamín Romeo, one of the most outstanding Spanish winegrowers. His talent for viticulture was discovered when two consecutive vintages of his garage wine, Contador (2004-2005), achieved 100 Parker points; a true accomplishment.

With Bodegas Contador, in San Vicente de Sonsierra (La Rioja), Benjamín Romeo wants to give continuity to a unique and personal style, based on attention to every detail of the winemaking process.

Bodega Contador has over fifty plots with different soils, microclimates, orientations, altitudes, varieties and clones, which allow them to achieve wines with great complexity. All the work they carry out in the vineyards is organic, respectful and honest, applying biodynamic guidelines throughout the entire process.

Qué Bonito Cacareaba is a wine made from White Grenache, Viura and Malvoisie from their own vineyards, planted between 50 and 70 years ago, in the municipalities of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Leza and Briones. The average yield per vine is of 1 kilo.

The harvest is performed by hand, placed in 14-kg boxes, and in a maximum time frame of half an hour it is transported to the winery. Once in the winery, they perform a manual selection of bunches, and after destemming, a manual selection of berries. Without crushing, the grapes go through cold maceration for 24 hours, before they are transferred to new 225-litre French oak barrels, where they will ferment at a controlled temperature, 16-18ºC. After 15 days, they are aged for 8 months in the same barrels, with a weekly batonnage. The wine is not stabilised or clarified.

Qué Bonito Cacareaba is a creamy, powerful and fresh wine. Elegant on the nose, with aromas of stone fruit, citrus and aromatic herbs that stand out. In the mouth it is voluminous but easy to drink, with a mineral finish that makes it very long lasting. Great integration of the wood.

Bodegas Contador is Benjamín Romeo: life, love for the land, roots, strictness, passion, time, results ... success. He began as a winemaker and oenologist, working for large wineries in La Rioja. However, with his personal project he has managed to get his wines on the menus of the most famous and expensive restaurants in the world. With utmost respect for the raw material and with a cultivation oriented towards maximum respect for the terroir, he started his personal project to create acclaimed red wines, authentic designer wines of low production.
