Puro Rofe Tilama is a white cask wine made by Puro Rofe with the Malvasía variety in the D.O. Lanzarote (Canary Islands).
Puro Rofe is the project of Rayco Fernandez, Carmelo Peña and a group of winegrowers who defend one of the most amazing volcanic landscapes in the world against all odds. As a result of the volcanic eruption which covered a third of the island with a rain of ash (Rofe in islander) in the middle of the 18th century, they obtain wines with the maximum expression of the place.
Puro Rofe Tilama comes from hundred-year-old vines buried in holes 3 meters deep to trap the humidity and protect them from the wind and the Saharan sun. Planted in volcanic limestone soils, they’re cultivated through environmentally-friendly agriculture and the grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripening.
Once in the winery, the bunches of Puro Rofe Tilama are directly crushed in the traditional way and the must obtained ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. Then the wine matures in used oak barrels for 8 months. Finally, it’s bottled unfiltered and unstabilized and it’s not put on the market until its optimum moment of maturity.
Originally from the volcanic area near the sea, Puro Rofe Tilama is a white wine with an extraordinary saline quality. A wine that comes from a singular place with exceptional flavor and acidity.
