Characteristics Planeta Etna Rosso
Etna Rosso Planet is a monovarietal red wine made from Nerello Mascalese and produced by the Planeta winery under the auspices of the DOC Etna, in Sicily.
Nerello Mascalese is the queen of Etna red grapes, whose maximum varietal expression is developed when it is cultivated from 350 metres above sea level upwards. It needs a temperature difference and late ripening, and provides fragrant and mineral wines with little colour and remarkable acidity.
Planeta Etna Rosso comes from the Pietramarina plot in the Feudo di Mezzo vineyards of the Planeta winery, which is surrounded by forests and 510 metres above sea level. There the soils are composed of lava sands and are extraordinarily rich in minerals.
To produce Etna Rosso Planet, the grapes are picked into boxes, and, if necessary, refrigerated immediately at 10ºC before being selected by hand. The must ferments at 23ºC in wooden casks and in stainless steel tanks where it remains in contact with the grape skins for 14 days during which time it is stirred twice a day. The wine is aged for 6 to 8 months in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels before bottling.
Planeta Etna Rosso offers us a frank picture of the typical character of the Nerello Mascalese variety and the peculiar nature of Etna’s volcanic terroir.
Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product
Planeta Etna Rosso 2016 is a red wine with a nose of forest fruit and smoky notes, with a spicy nuance reminiscent of black pepper. On the palate it is fleshy but smooth, with a fruity explosion and a subtle salty note.
