Characteristics Piélago

Piélago is a red wine from the D.O Méntrida produced by the winery Jiménez-Landi.

The winery is located in the town of Méntrida (Toleda), their work is characterised by old Grenache vines from the Sierra de Gredos and for their sustainable agricultural methods. It could be said that they are very little interventionist in the fields, they don´t use chemical products and have reduced the use of sulphur to a maximum.

Piélago is 100% produced by grapes from the variety Grenache. The grapes originate from old vines between 40-70 years old from 5ha of land. Located in the town of Real de Sant Vicente of which the main the mountain has given rise to the name of the wine.

The vines are planted in gravely sand at an altitude of 700-850m.

For production, the must is fermented in wooden vats between 15-30 days.

After the wine making process, the wine is aged for 20 months in 500 and 3000 litre French oak barrels.

Tasting notes Piélago

Piélago 2016 is a deep, fluid and fresh red wine. In this vintage, the elegant aromas of fresh red fruit stand out on a mineral background. Easy to drink, expressive and long.
Potent and juicy attack. Fresh and silky mid-palate, with the arrival of red fruit (cherry) and spicy notes. Mature tannins. Long finish.

Intense red with a purple rim.

Delicate ripe red fruit aromas on a pleasant mineral and vegetal base.
Broad and tasty on the palate with a silky, smooth yet solid texture and well-structured tannins. Notes of cherry jam intermingle with chargrilled nuances.

Red with violet reflections.

Discreet in the nose. Aromas of ripe red and dark fruit along with touches of field herbs.

They are a small winery located in the town of Méntrida, town of rich history in wine that gives name to the appellation of origin in northwestern province of Toledo: DO Méntrida. The winery is part of the family home whose oldest part, the cave chopped by hand, goes back to the seventeenth century and in which their ancestors elaborated in earthen jars. The current project led by Jose Benavides Jiménez - Landi, Daniel Gómez Jiménez - Landi starts in 2004 with the sole aim of producing wines based on respect for the environment, tradition and balance with our environment.
