Peñamonte 5 meses en Barrica is a red wine made by Bodegas Riojanas in the D.O Toro using the Tinta de Toro variety.

Bodegas Riojanas was founded in 1890 by the Artocha and Carreras families in the town of Cenicero (Logroño). More than one hundred years of winemaking tradition during which the five generations have held onto classic production methods everywhere: Rioja Alta, Toro, Rías Baixas, Ribera de Duero, Rueda and Cava.

Peñamonte 5 meses en Barrica comes from vineyards with direct plantations of “Vitis vinifera” shoots. They practice a traditional viticulture adapted to new technologies with the aim of achieving low production and great rusticity.

In the winery, the Peñamonte 5 meses en Barrica grapes are destemmed and crushed. They go through fermentation and maceration at a controlled temperature. They are then aged for 5 months in American oak barrels.

Peñamonte 5 meses en Barrica is a fleshy red wine for enjoying the true essence of Toro at a low price.

The winery Bodegas Riojanas accumulates more than a century of winemaking tradition in its winery in the municipality of Cenicero. Its corners are pervaded with history and talk about the passion for the ageing of its wines. This tradition and this passion have been transmitted to the team that currently manages Bodegas Riojanas, which considers the compromise with the quality and the character of its wines as its most precious legacy.
Pictures and situation Bodegas Riojanas
In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
