Pegasus Bay Riesling is an organic white wine, aged on lees, made by Pegasus Bay in Canterbury (New Zealand) with the Riesling white variety.
Pegasus Bay is a winery run by the Donaldson family in the Waipara Valley on New Zealand’s North Island. As local pioneers, they have worked to adapt the practices and varieties used in Burgundy to find their best expression on the shores of the Pacific. An accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture programme, their wines are ecological and environmentally-friendly.
The Pegasus Bay Riesling grapes grow on stony terraces in the Waipara Valley. These vineyards are well protected from the Pacific winds thanks to the Teviotdale mountain range. The team use ecological agriculture and organic methods to fight diseases and pests instead of herbicides and insecticides.
In the winery, the Pegasus Bay Riesling grapes are selected and gently pressed. The resulting must is fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at a controlled low temperature. They work throughout the process to try and retain the natural carbon dioxide for a fresher wine.
Pegasus Bay Riesling is a good example of the quality wines that this pioneering winery has been making on the other side of the world since the 70s. A refreshing and concentrated Riesling from the Pacific.
