Viña Meín O Pequeno Meín 2021
D.O. Ribeiro
(Galicia)
- New
In recent times, escaping your comfort zone has been recommended in all areas of life. This mental state keeps you doing what you know and makes you feel secure. However, it can also make you function on autopilot, so people who don’t leave their comfort zone can fall into laziness and boredom. This certainly isn't the case with the Pago de Carraovejas team. This winery in Valladolid has had great success with its D.O. Ribera del Duero wines, and is now going a step further by making white wines in what is known as the “nuevo ribeiro” (Galicia). To do this, they set themselves up in the village of Leiro, in the heart of the D.O. Ribeiro and bought two of the most symbolic wineries in the area: Viña Meín and Emilio Rojo. And so, under the name Viña Meín-Emilio Rojo, they started a new project that promotes the Galician denomination.
An example of this is O Gran Meín Castes Brancas, a white wine made in the Avia Valley, which predominantly has a wide range of mainly alluvial, sandy and granitic soils. A small-holding expression using local grape varieties like Treixadura, Torrontés, Albariño, Godello, Loureira, Caíño Blanco and Lado, made with the aim of promoting the most authentic historical side of Ribeiro. The vines are cultivated using environmentally-friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery the grapes are vinified in small batches to enhance the richness of each variety and plot. Following spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts the wine finally spends 12 months in stainless steel tanks on its own lees.
O Gran Meín Castes Brancas is the result of microvinifications by expert hands. An unctuous, fresh and pleasant wine that puts the D.O. Ribeiro in the spotlight around the world.
O Gran Meín Castes Brancas 2019 is a creamy white wine with a fragrant nose of citrus, stone fruits and floral hints. On the palate it is fresh, energetic and delicate at the same time. An unctuous wine with intense sensations that flow in perfect balance.
