Mullineaux Quarz Leliefontein Chenin Blanc is a barrel aged white wine made with the Chenin Blanc variety by Mullineux & Leeu in Swartland (South Africa).

After working in different wineries in France, South Africa and California, Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in Swartland in 2007, in northern Cape Town (South Africa), to take advantage of the area’s winemaking potential. In 2013, they joined the Leeu Collection project and, between the two initiatives, they cover 7 hectares of old vineyards and shale terroirs. There, Mullineux & Leeu began a winemaking revolution together with 20 other producers (Swartland Independent Producers) who define themselves as champions of authentic wines from exclusive terroirs, made without using additives in the winemaking process.

The Mullineaux Quarz Leliefontein Chenin Blanc grapes come from a plot of the Chenin variety. These are 35 year old strains planted in quartz soil and cultivated in a traditional and environmentally friendly way. The strain yield is limited and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

Once in the winery, the Mullineaux Quarz Leliefontein Chenin Blanc grapes are pressed to begin spontaneous fermentation without adding yeasts, acids, enzymes or other chemicals that can hide or mask the character of the vine. It is then aged for a few months in oak barrels. Finally, when the wine is ready, it is bottled unfiltered and generally unrefined, with moderate levels of sulphur.

Mullineaux Quarz Leliefontein Chenin Blanc is a creamy, fresh and extremely elegant wine that reveals the full minerality of unique soils. A discovery that carries the DNA of this exquisite South African region.
