Characteristics Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva
Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva is a red wine made by Bodega Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva in San José de Aguarón, in the D.O. Cariñena.
Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva is a blend of Grenache (70%), Tempranillo (20%) and Carignan (10%), from vineyards between 35 and 45 years old planted in a low vine plantation system.
The harvest is carried out by hand.
The grapes go through a cold maceration (6ºC) for 96 hours and ferment for 8 days in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature of 28ºC.
Once the fermentation is completed, the wine macerates for between 15 and 20 days to finish extracting the grape's potential. The varieties are aged separately: the Tempranillo and the Carignan in French oak barrels and the Grenache in American oak barrels.
Choosing the best barrels the final blend is made and the wine is bottled and left to age in the bottle for at least 24 months.

Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva 2014 is a deep, elegant and structured red wine. In this vintage, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with marked toasted notes of the aging process. On the palate it is pleasant, with a good mouthfeel and quite a lingering finish.
In the mouth this wine is fresh, tasty and has a very good acidity.
Dark red colour with some orange reflections. Medium to medium-high robe.
Aromas of red fruit, strawberries, spices, pepper and minerals.

D.O. Cariñena
For centuries red wine from Cariñena was characterized by high alcohol contents, intense colours and great strength. These wines were made for French and Spanish exporters, who used it for blending with other wines from other latitudes, which were much lighter, thinner and fragile. However in recent years, the area has been carefully working with the traditional Grenache grapes, as well as recovering back the Cariñena variety (also known as Mazuelo), shaking off overly alcoholic wines to join the world of good quality wines. The future of this region is much more promising than its past.
