Matassa Carner Blanc is a natural monovarietal white wine made from Macabeo grapes and produced by Domaine Matassa in Languedoc-Roussillon.

Domaine Matassa is a winery founded in 2002 by Tom Lubbe a New Zealander who grew up in South Africa. the winery cultivates its 20 or so hectares of Grenache, Cariñena, Monastrell, Macabeo and Muscat organically and biodynamically. Most of the vines are very old - between 60 and 120 years old, their yields are very low, about 3,500 kg per hectare and they are vinified with native yeasts and using very low levels of sulphites. Its wines are pleasant, fresh and vibrant.

Matassa Carner Blanc is a 0.5 hectare vineyard planted with vines that are 115 years old. The soil is a mixture of lime, clay and slate and the plot is surrounded by garrigue, a native plant. They work with horses because the land is very steep and it would be impossible to do so with machinery. The climate of the area is influenced by the proximity to the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees.

Matassa Carner Blanc is harvested by hand and the whole bunches are fermented for 2 weeks. Once fermented, the wine is aged for 8 to 10 months in used French oak barrels that are 4 years old. It is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
