The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine has succeeded in giving the Abruzzo region’s winemaking the visibility it deserves. Known all around the world for its complexity and quality, these grapes have become one of the most appreciated in the world. And one name that has driven its resurgence and the resurgence of wine itself in this region of south-central Italy is Masciarelli. One of the largest and highest quality wineries in the area, with a total of 300 hectares of vineyards with different soil typology and varied climatic conditions, they are able to create a wide range of wines that showcase and promote the uniqueness of each variety and terroir.
Within the winery’s flagship range, we find Villa Gemma, a range that embodies the complete style and taste of winemaker Gianni Masciarelli whose Masciarelli Villa Gemma Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo has become one of the leading examples among the great Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo wines. A rosé wine from superb 15 to 40 year old vineyards lying at an altitude of 400 metres on the hills of Chieti, on clay-rich calcareous soils. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually and taken straight to the winery. The wine is destemmed and macerated with the skins for 24 hours and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled low temperature. The wine is then aged for 5 months on its lees in the same tanks.
Because of its character, austerity and complexity, Masciarelli Villa Gemma Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is one of the best known rosés in Italy and around the world. One of the most authentic interpretations of Abruzzo’s most noble grape.
