Iskra, which in Russian means “The Spark”, was the name of the first revolutionary newspaper that laid the foundations of Russian Marxism. A name that Lenin himself took from the phrase coined by Vladimir Odoyévski “A spark can light a flame” and that has been used as the Marxist motto for a long time. Winemaking in Italy has nothing to do with politics, but Gianni and Marina started their own revolution in Abruzzo. With a wide variety of quality wines made within the Masciarelli brand, they ignited the spark that put this wine region on the international map. This is clear to see with Masciarelli Iskra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva, an immense single-vineyard Montepulciano that is a true explosion of aromas and flavours.

The product of a sandy soil vineyard lying 200 metres above sea level in Controguerra, in the province of Teramo, Masciarelli Iskra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva is a single-variety Montepulciano, the area’s star variety. Once the grapes are properly ripened, they are harvested by hand and carefully taken to the winery. There they are selected, destemmed and crushed to begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged in 225-litre new oak barrels for 12 months and refined for another 24 months in the bottle before release.
