Masciarelli Villa Gemma Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2021
DOC Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo
(Abruzzo)
Masciarelli Gianni Masciarelli Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2021 is a fruity rosé wine with intense aromas of red fruit accompanied by floral and spicy notes. On the palate, however, it is robust, dry and well-structured. A harmonious wine with lots of fruit, fine minerality and a light almond aftertaste.
For a long time, Abruzzo, a beautiful area in central southern Italy, had a reputation for being average. However, Gianni Masciarelli’s great passion for vineyards and wine managed to put this region in the international spotlight. It all began when this visionary inherited land from his paternal grandfather and discovered the great variety of the soils exposed to different microclimates and all the potential within the local Montepulciano and Trebbiano vines. In his winery, founded in 1978, he masterfully combines territory, culture and tradition and, over the years, he has not only managed to place the Abruzzo region on the map of high quality wines, but his wines have also reached cult status.
Unfortunately Gianni died too young, so Marina Cvetic, his constant partner in both work and life, is now in charge of carrying the Masciarelli legacy. This is clear to see in wines like this Masciarelli Gianni Masciarelli Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. A product of the rugged Abruzzo landscape, it is made from old vines of the star Montepulciano variety. A grape grown using respectful viticulture methods and relying on low yields. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand and taken to the winery for vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. It remains there on its lees for 3 months.
Considering that a Cerasuolo D'Abruzzo must be made of at least 85% Montepulciano, and only regional vines can be included, Masciarelli Gianni Masciarelli Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a pure breed that not only speaks of terroir, but also showcases local soil, climate and human touch. All the expertise of a visionary.
