Mas de Sella Selección is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by Mas de La Real de Sella with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Marseille, Garnacha Tintorera and Cabernet Franc varieties in the D.O. Alicante.

Mas de La Real de Sella is a young agricultural recovery project that started in 2004. This is a winery with 4 hectares of high mountain vineyards lying at almost 1,000 metres above sea level and just 10 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to their rich environment and their championing of biological diversity, this winery finds itself among the top 10 wineries with the highest biodiversity index in Spain. They use extensive ecological agriculture in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the winery.

Mas de Sella Selección comes from vines arranged in a kind of natural terraced amphitheatre where they are interspersed with olive, almond and apple trees and all kinds of Mediterranean fauna and flora. No chemicals are used, instead relying on ecological practices to preserve the natural balance of the soil as much as possible. It is not fertilised or tilled but does have a green cover to protect it from the high daytime temperatures. All of this work results in very limited production but exceptional quality wines.

In the winery, each of the varieties used to make the Mas de Sella Selección coupage is vinified separately. They are first gently pressed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. Once the wine has been made, it is left to age for 12 months in French oak barrels. Finally, it is bottled without filtering.

Mas de Sella Selección is an elegant and complex but also light organic red wine made through the natural respect of a large landscape rich in Mediterranean biodiversity.

There is no doubt that the Monastrell grape variety has become a fashionable grape variety. This region is home to over half a dozen cooperatives, which have been at the forefront of a wine revolution, making wines that are respectful to the local culture the area, cultivating vines with care, selecting only the best fruit and producing wines that faithfully express character of the terroir. These wines are easy to identify, due to the fact the estate or vineyard from which they came from is usually printed on their label. Also, their authenticity and quality can be guaranteed by the DO Alicante, which not only certifies the farms, but also everything posted on the wines labeling.
