- New

Xavier Clua's name is heard more and more often. These wineries, located at D.O. Terra Alta, have been working the vineyard and making wines for four generations. Nowadays, this tradition not only continues, specifically from Villalba dels Arcs, but is also regenerated with this new generation which took the helm in 1995.
From selling bulk wines, Xavier Clua winery makes the leap to professionalism, always based on limited productions and selecting the best grapes. In this region to the south of the province of Tarragona near the river Ebro, the varieties grow on soils rich in limestone and clay, but poor in organic matter. The rest of the work is done by the abundant amount of sunshine and scarce rainfall (400 mm per year), accompanied by the dryness of the Cierzo and the humidity of the Garbinada (the two predominant winds). Vine training in this area, where the soil is easily drained, is based on the arbor, guaranteeing the maturation and good health of the berries.
At Xavier Clua, cellar work and vinification are carried out in two areas. The reception, pressing, fermentation and bottling are done in the new facilities on the Gandesa road, built in 2006, where the latest technology is used. For ageing you have to go to Sant Isidre street, in the town center, where the company has an ageing room. This same winemaking process is followed by Mas d'en Pol Barrica 2016, a red wine that macerates for 20 to 25 days and is fermented at a controlled temperature (between 28 and 30ºC) in order to maintain its full potential and aroma. Finally, the 8 months spent in French oak casks and the year in the bottle make this red wine one of the best wines of this winery. An essential wine from the D.O. Terra Alta.
Mas d'en Pol Barrica 2016 is a concentrated aromatic red wine. Rich and complex on the nose, with notes of ripe black fruit at first, followed by aromas from the barrel. On the palate, it’s acidic, fresh, with a smoky flavor typical of the ageing process.
