Martín Códax Gallaecia is a white wine from D.O. Rías Baixas produced by Martín Códax.

The winery took the name of a famous troubadour from Galicia, whose songs are some of the oldest in the entire Galician-Portuguese language.

This wine is a single variety Albariño (100%) made from overripe grapes with a high botrytis. As for the production, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel deposits and, following that, malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel deposits. The first Albariño with the Martín Códax label was made from the 1986 harvest. Its name evokes the figure of a medieval poet and illustrious troubadour, and it was the first serious project in Rías Baixas to definitively challenge the image of sparse and cloudy wine. After years of hard work, large investments and difficult decisions, this winery has demonstrated that it not only holds a sixth sense for foretelling new trends in the wine market, but can also execute them with impeccable skill.
Pictures and situation Martín Códax
Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.
