Marañones is a red wine from Vinos de Madrid produced by the Marañones winery. This wine is made using only Grenache grapes.
The grapes used for Marañones come from three different plots located on slopes with a north facing orientation at about 750-850 metres above sea level. The vines are around 50 and 70 years old and are cultivated organically.
After the harvest has been carried out and the grapes are taken to the wineries facilities, they are incubated and left to cold macerate. Following this, they undergo fermentation using native yeasts in French Oak Barrels of 33 hectolitres capacity, during which pigeage occurs, with the aim of maximum extraction of the juice.
Before its final ageing, malolactic fermentation takes place in used 500L barrels. Then, Marañones rests for a year in the same barrels used for fermentation. It is then bottled without being stabilised, clarified or filtered.
If you want to enjoy Marañones then we suggest that you hurry! Production is limited to 4900 units. The name of this wine reminds us of, arañon, a name which is sometimes used to refer to sloe fruit in Spain.
