Characteristics Marañones Darío

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Darío is a red wine made in San Martín de Valdeiglesias by Bodega Marañones.

Bodega Marañones is J. Fernando Cornejo's project with technical help from Fernando García and Alvar de Dios. The 20 hectares of vineyards are cultivated ecologically, and are settled on degraded granitic earth which gives it a sandy texture. The main varieties are the white Albillo and the red Garnacha.

To make Darío, they use the native variety Morenillo, a grape with a low alcohol content and high acidity. Fermentation is carried out with its own yeasts in stainless steel tanks and the wine is then aged for 9 months in 500 litre barrels.

As a result, we have a fluid wine, with an acidic red berry profile, perfect for lovers of fresh wines.

For the Marañones Winery, “landscape wines” is not just an advertising mantra. They handcraft the flavors and nuances presented by the unusual environment of the Sierra de Gredos, where they have a mosaic of vineyards which work under biodynamic principles in the DO Vinos de Madrid. They’re committed to the varieties of the area: Garnacha, Morenillo and Albillo, which come from old vines which grow in impressive high-altitude vineyards. In short, wines made with honesty and dedication.
Pictures and situation Marañones
Although Madrid wines (Vinos de Madrid) are still relatively unknown among consumers, the region has enjoyed a prestige and historical past that dates back to the twelfth century. Current wines in the region however are far from the old wines of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, who in their golden years were perceived as some of the most prestigious wines in Spain. Today, the Vinos of Madrid face a highly competitive wine scene, but the effort local wineries regain this old prestige is evident in the quality of the wines being produced.
