Characteristics Las Umbrías

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Las Umbrías is a red wine made by Comando G in Sierra de Gredos, in Madrid.
Comando G is a project for the recuperation of old abandoned Grenache vines. Hence the name Comando G. G for Grenache.
Las Umbrías is a single variety Grenache, grown in a small plot that is difficult to access, situated at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level.
The climate, very difficult for the vines at this altitude, enables the grapes to have a balanced ripening so that they become fresh and elegant wines.
The vineyards are east facing, with granite soil, sand and clay on the surface.

Comando G practices its agriculture based on the principles of biodynamic with a lot of respect for the environment.
Las Umbrías undergoes a fermentation, with local yeast from their own vineyards, in 500 litre barrels before there is an aging for a year.
Production is limited. Just over 1000 bottles which are only made in cooler years.
A real gem, subtle and elegant.

For many, Comando G will sound like the name of a cartoons series that was broadcast on Spanish television in the late seventies and early eighties. But in the wine world, Comando G has a very precise interpretation: "G" for Grenache and "G" for Gredos. A project that began thanks to the passion of three young wine enthusiasts whose goal was to produce the best Grenache wine. And they managed to surprise everyone with wines of a marked personality, traditional and modern at the same time, with slight colour, hardly any wood, good acidity. With a fluid texture but persistent, fine tannins, tasty and elegant. Their idea is to make quality wines that reflect the area, the soils, the vintage and the variety.
Although Madrid wines (Vinos de Madrid) are still relatively unknown among consumers, the region has enjoyed a prestige and historical past that dates back to the twelfth century. Current wines in the region however are far from the old wines of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, who in their golden years were perceived as some of the most prestigious wines in Spain. Today, the Vinos of Madrid face a highly competitive wine scene, but the effort local wineries regain this old prestige is evident in the quality of the wines being produced.
