La Zarcita is a red wine from the appellation of origin (D.O) Ribera del Guadiana produced by the winery Palacio Quemado. This was a project set up in 1999 by the winery Bodegas Alvear in the town of Alange (Badajoz).

La Zarcita is producted from a blend of Tempranillo (40%), Syrah (40%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). The vines are planted at an altitude of 520 meters above sea level and the soils are mainly calcareous.

For production, the grapes are harvested and fermented separately, this respects the optimum period for ripening and to preserve the grape's character.

Palacio Quemado, the challenge of Bodegas Alvear and the Losada Serra family in Extremadura to make wines under D.O. Ribera del Guadiana. Palacio Quemado, formerly known as Viñas de Alangue, is a relatively recent viticultural experience that seeks to make quality wines from an exceptional terroir, linked to the century-old experience of bodegas Alvear, and based on tradition, respect for the land, and the best winery technology.
Although Extremadura has been a little behind in the revolution of Spanish viticulture, it is evident that the area is now making a firm commitment to improve and modernise viticulture and oenology in the region. Many wines of the region reflect this new lease of life while holding on to their own extremeño style. It is therefore not surprising that new visionary winemakers and wineries have, as they have in Alvear, set up wineries in these latitudes to produce modern and personal wines.
