La Sorga Arôme Maiden 2018 is a juicy red wine with aromas of violet flowers, fruity notes and smoky hints. On the palate it is lively, deep and dense. A wine full of tension, with a smooth mid-palate and a refreshing finish.
We don’t know if Anthony Tortul, a natural winegrower, is passionate about heavy metal music, but when you see the name La Sorga Arôme Maiden among the large number of wines he makes every year, you can’t help but wonder if it is a play on words of the British heavy metal band, Iron Maiden. Thought to be one of the most important bands of all time, if this group that has fascinated the young and not so young for 5 decades is known for one thing, it is their pure hard rock songs. As pure as the wines made by Anthony at his winery La Sorga.
Like all his wines, La Sorga Arôme Maiden is the result of a rigorous selection of old vines. He uses Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc vines aged over 50 years old that are planted on clay-limestone soils in Montels (Languedoc-Roussillon) in a single plot and cultivated using organic and biodynamic principles. Once the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand in 15 kg crates and taken to Anthony’s winery in Béziers. There, the whole bunches are assembled and the grapes are manually destemmed and lightly pressed. Then the must macerates for 60 days with its skins and fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts. Finally, the wine is aged for 10 months in stoneware vats and 1 more year in the bottle.
So now you know, if you want to enjoy pure rock in its purest form, you should try La Sorga Arôme Maiden. The latest frenzy from Anthony Tortul.
