La Senda 1984 Mencía is a red wine produced by Bodegas y Viñedos la Senda in Camponaraya, D.O. Bierzo.

Bodegas y Viñedos La Senda is the personal project of Diego Losada, who in 2013 decided to recover 3 plots of vineyards with the idea of safeguarding them and taking care of them. His objective was to reflect the history and culture of the area in his wines, with utmost respect for the surroundings and with a handcrafted production.

The 3-hectare vineyard has 13 plots that were planted over 60 years ago on clayey-calcareous soils, on hillsides and high areas up to 600 metres above sea level, with a prevailing Atlantic climate.

These plots are cultivated with non-intrusive agriculture, using natural methods to preserve the biological balance of the vineyard.

La Senda 1984 Mencía is a wine made from Mencía, from three farms surrounded by undergrowth, planted on clayey-calcareous soils at 600 metres of altitude.

The harvest is performed by hand, and once it arrives at the winery, it is partly destemmed. Fermentation takes place with wild yeasts. It starts in concrete and ends in French oak barrels, where the wine is left to age for 7 months. The wine goes through natural stabilisation, and it is bottled without filtering or clarifying.

La Senda 1984 Mencía is a juicy, intense and fresh wine. This wine is named after the book '1984' by George Orwell, based on the concept: "Born against the single thought, another way of doing is possible."

Bierzo wine is on the rise. It is a region defined by its small scale work, with plots scattered around, very old vines, artisan work of the small scale wineries, and the character of their principal variety, the Mencía grape, which produces fresh, fruity and delicious wines. Although the region is well known mostly for its red wines, it also produces white and rosé wines. If the red wines here are defined by the Mencía variety, then the white wines here are defined by the Godello. Godello grape has great aromatic potential, as well as an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity.  Despite the great potential of El Bierzo, its rise in the wine world would not have been possible without two people: Raúl Pérez and Ricardo Pérez. Two great winemakers who in little time have been able to produce critically acclaimed wines from the Bierzo region.
