Characteristics La Nieta

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

We know how devoted grandparents are to their grandchildren. The truth is that the arrival of these little ones in the family is a breath of fresh air, especially for the older ones, which gives them the perfect excuse to get the best out of themselves. Grandparents are not in charge of bringing up their grandchildren, they just want to make them happy. In the same way, Viñedos de Páganos, a winery founded in 1998 by the fifth generation of the Eguren winemaking family, produces La Nieta from the heart, a little gem made from a plot of only 1.75 hectares in the D.O.Ca Rioja with the same name. This is the winery’s little darling.

La Nieta is located in Páganos-Laguardia (Álava) at an altitude of 525 metres above sea level. It was planted in 1975 with Tempranillo vines growing on clay-loam and very mineral soils that enjoy an Atlantic climate with continental influence. Integrated viticulture is used, respecting the environment, in harmony with nature’s rhythms. Once harvested and selected, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery.

Carved under the vineyard, Viñedos de Páganos is an impressive underground wine cellar. A new generation facility where the first fermentation of La Nieta takes place in small 10 hectolitre oak vats followed by malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. It spends 18 months there to develop into a smooth, expressive and very elegant wine.

The leaders of several wineries in different Denominations of Origin, the Eguren family has seen the family grow with pride. From Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, Señorío de San Vicente and Viñedos de Páganos in La Rioja, to Teso La Monja in Toro and Domino de Eguren making Vinos de la Tierra in Castilla, these are authentic wines full of personality.  Five generations dedicated to wine and with La Nieta, introduced in the 2004 vintage, they are showing no signs of stopping any time soon.

Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
