La Llena is a wood-aged red wine made by Clos Pons with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety in the D.O. Costers del Segre, in Catalonia (Spain).
Located between the towns of l’Albagés and Pobla de Cérvoles, in Les Garrigues, Clos Pons is a family project that stopped growing olive trees so they could concentrate on making high-quality wines with their oenologist Martí Magrinya. This is an imposing and welcoming winery that takes care of the natural environment and makes wines that showcase the characteristic aspects of this inland part of Catalonia.
La Llena comes from old dry-land vineyards growing at 680 metres above sea level. These vines rest at the foot of the Sierra de la Llena. They grow on rather steep terrain, with extreme weather conditions and soils that are poor in organic matter. They are cultivated using environmentally-friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the La Llena grapes undergo a classic vinification process with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and then a 12-month aging in French oak barrels.
La Llena is a high altitude wine that expresses the full potential of its terroir and variety. A limited edition single-variety wine that instills pride in the D.O. Costers del Segre.
