La Gándara is a red wine made with the native Mencía, Alicante Bouschet and Palomino varieties in the V.T. Castilla-León by Fuentes del Silencio.

Fuentes del Silencio lies southwest of León, in the village of Herreros del Jamuz. A new winery run by winemakers Marta Ramas and Miguel Fisac who cultivate 25 hectares of vineyards planted with native varieties, using respectful agriculture and ancient practices. In the winery they intervene as little as possible to create unique limited production wines.

Las Gándaras comes from a plot that lies on a small hill on the banks of the Jamuz River. This 2-hectare plot is planted with old vines aged between 70 and 100 years old, on reddish sand, at an altitude of 830 metres and surrounded by an oak forest. They use conventional cultivation methods and the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes.

To make Las Gándaras, all grapes are placed in French oak foudres without being destemmed. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts and it is allowed to macerate with the skins for 60 days. It is then gently pressed and left to age in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Las Gándaras 2016 is the most exclusive red wine from this new winery. A small and very special production that faithfully reflects its origins through minimal intervention and experimentation.
