La Estrada is a red wine made with the Tempranillo variety by the Lanziego Winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Telmo Rodríguez, son of the legendary owners of the Granja Remelluri winery in Rioja, now has his own wine business that includes a dozen wineries spread across the country. Among them is the Lanziego Winery, a project that began in 1998 in the town of Lanziego (Rioja Alavesa) with the intention of returning to its origins. The landscape and the climate here are perfect for producing 100% Rioja wines. This results in small, high quality productions.

La Estrada comes from a single 0.64 hectare vineyard, called La Estrada Alta, located on the highest part of a clay-calcareous soil slope, at 610 metres above sea level. These are old strains with limited yields that are cultivated according to organic and biodynamic practices, with the harvest being carried out manually.

Once the grapes reach the winery, they are carefully selected and destemmed. Then La Estrada macerates and ferments in large open wooden barrels with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. Finally, before being bottled, it ages in French oak foudres for around 16 months.

La Estrada is one of Temo Rodríguez’s most personal works. A small production made on their land that reveals the best of Rioja’s terrroir.
