Characteristics La Estrecha

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

La Casilla Estrecha is a red wine made in Manchuela by Bodegas Ponce.

The name of the wine comes from the "tightness" of the vineyard, it is planted at a density of 1,700 plants per hectare, when usually they do not exceed 1,100.

This wine is a varietal Bobal from old vines over 75 years of age planted on calcareous soils at an altitude of 870 metres above sea level.

Although technically we cannot speak of this wine as a single variety as among the Bobal strains of this vineyard, you can also find a few varieties of Moravia and Autumn Royal and Marisancho, varieties that bring freshness and elegance.

The climate is continental, with low precipitation and large temperature differences between day and night to facilitate a correct ripening of the grapes.

A harsh climate results in a low yield from the vineyard, but some grapes have great concentration. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts from the vineyard itself.

La Casilla Estrecha is aged for 11 months in 600 litre barrels of French oak.

Pictures and situation Ponce
Over the past few years, the DO Manchuela has worked extensively on improving the quality of its wines, and it is clear that its efforts have paid off. Improved technological advances and greater knowledge in the cultivation of their vineyards have launched the region into a new era. The wines produced here are enjoyed both in the domestic and the international market, with 80% of production sold internationally. Harvests are now carried out slightly sooner to produce slightly subtler wines, with the skins being separated from the must to get more subdued colours, while the wines are cold stabilized and undergo fermentation in controlled temperatures, in search of fruity aromas.
