The world of wine is captivating, so much so that there are some great winemaking names that used to have nothing to do with viticulture or enology, however one day life slowed them down and they stopped to listen. This is how Josep Grau ended up leaving his job as a broker in the city to move to Marçà, a small village in Montsant (Catalonia), and dedicate himself fully to what really motivates him: winemaking. Naming his company after himself, Josep Grau Viticultor now produces a very limited but well known collection.
One example of his work is L'Efecte Volador Blanc, a white wine produced in small plots in the surroundings of Marçà, in the heart of the D.O. Montsant. These are Garnacha Blanca vines with an average age of 5 years old and planted on clay soils. They are cultivated using organic agriculture and following a manual harvest, the selected clusters are pressed very slowly in the winery in pneumatic presses. The resulting must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks where it is left to settle for 5 months on its lees before bottling.
Elegant and very suggestive, L'Efecte Volador Blanc is a white wine that is faithful to the D.O. Montsant terroir. A Garnacha Blanca that is made in a very grounded way but will sweep you away when you take a sip.
L'Efecte Volador Blanc 2020 is a defined white wine with intense aromas of white flowers intermingled with savoury fresh fruit and herbal touches. The palate is juicy, meaty and well balanced. It has a long, unctuous texture and a pleasant, slightly bitter finish.
