Joan and Francesc Ferré are brothers and descendants of a farming family from Corbera d'Ebre (Tarragona) who grew almond trees and vineyards.
Their father and grandfather, like many other winegrowers, had always sold their grapes to a cooperative. In their case they would sell to the big wineries in the area until one year, without warning, this significant buyer told them they would no longer be able to do business with them. What happens now with all the grapes we have, what if we make our own wine?
And that is how Celler Frisach came to be. This winery is currently run by the Ferré brothers and has become one of the most representative of the D.O. Terra Alta. Here, they produce L’Abrunet de Frisach Rosat, a rosé that also comes directly from the question: what if we make the most of all the opportunities this land gives us?
This philosophy helped them both shake off their fears and begin production to try and bottle the soul of the D.O. Terra Alta, a place where, in the 90’s, most of the native vines were uprooted to plant international varieties that were more fashionable. Now, with L'Abrunet de Frisach Rosat, they are going back to tradition, to what their grandparents did: harvesting all the grapes from the estate at the same time, vinifying them together and recovering almost non-existent varieties.
When the L'Abrunet de Frisach Rosat grapes reach the winery, they rest and macerate with the skins before pressing. After a light pressing, the first pressings are transferred to stainless steel tanks, where the wine is finished off.
We know that sometimes challenges can be turned into something great. And this was certainly the case for Celler Frisach. It all depends on how you look at it. Whether you see a glass half empty or a glass half full. For these brothers, it surely must always be a glass half-full of L'Abrunet de Frisach Rosat.
L'Abrunet de Frisach Blanc 2020 is a rosé made from three varieties: Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Gris and Garnacha Tinta. On the nose there are slight hints of olives, with green almonds and orange. On the palate it is sweet and juicy, with strawberries, cherries, red apple and fresh figs.
