Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages is a monovarietal Chardonnay white wine from the AOC Mâcon-Villages produced by Joseph Drouhin.
Joseph Drouhin is a winery founded in 1880 and located in Beaune. It owns 78 hectares in the various subzones of Burgundy and also buy grapes and must from local producers. The winery has practised organic agriculture in its vineyards for years, and exports its wines to a large number of countries on all continents.
The grapes for Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages come from vineyards in the south of Burgundy, near Pouilly-Fuissé. The soils originated in the Jurassic period and are of limestone and clay, optimal for the cultivation of Chardonnay. The plots have an average of 7,000 plants per hectare and are Guyot pruned.
Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages is made by pressing the grapes slowly to respect the fruit as much as possible and to avoid extracting herbal aromas and tastes. The musts from the final pressings are not used to make the wine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with native yeasts and no commercial enzymes are used to make the wine. Lastly, the wine ages on lees for a period of 6 to 8 months, also in stainless steel tanks.
