D.O. Montsant (Catalonia)
Josep Grau Territori is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Garnacha Tinta variety by Josep Grau Viticultor in the D.O. Montsant (Tarragona).
Josep Grau left behind his life as a broker in the city to do what he really wanted to do. He began a new life as a winemaker in the village of Marçà, the area his parents were born and a place he had felt a connection with since he was a child. He currently manages 26 hectares of vineyards in different parts of the D.O.Montsant and with diverse soils. Through his winemaking processes, he creates limited production wines that are faithful to the area.
Josep Grau Territori comes from La Serra d'Almos, in the southern part of the D.O. Montsant (Tarragona). These are strains aged between 35 and 40 years old on clay and calcareous soils and lying 250 metres above sea level. They are organically cultivated without using herbicides or pesticides. Yields are limited to 3,000/4,000 kg/ha. and when the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested manually in small boxes to keep the berry in tact.
Each of the varieties used to make Josep Grau Territori is microvinified separately. Once the four wines are ready, the coupage is made and allowed to rest for 14 months in 2.500 litre Austrian oak foudres. It is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Josep Grau Territori is a very limited production wine that faithfully reflects the area through microvinifications of the different plots.
