Josep Grau La Florens is an organic barrel-aged red wine made by Josep Grau Viticultor in the D.O. Montsant (Tarragona) with the Garnacha Tinta variety.
This is a winery with a very interesting past. It was founded by Josep Grau, a man who followed his heart by leaving his previous life as a broker and moving to Marçà (Priorat) with his family to make his own wines in the D.O. Montsant. He currently manages 26 hectares of vineyards with extremely diverse soils, and cultivates using an organic and pesticide-free agriculture. The winery seeks to maintain the natural characteristics of the grape using native yeasts, minimal amounts of sulphur and without correcting the possible defects of the vintage. This results in wines that tell a story about Montsant and in particular the vintage.
The grapes used to make Josep Grau La Florens come from centuries-old strains that are planted in a clay soil estate. They are organically-cultivated using organic techniques and biodynamic practices to guarantee maximum expression of the fruit. This is all traditional work that is carried out manually with the harvest taking place when the grapes reach optimum ripeness using 10 kg boxes.
In the winery, Josep Grau La Florens vinifies with very little intervention. This means it is left to ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in cement tanks and then ages in 2,500-litre round foudres for 14 months. When bottling the wine, a minimal amount of sulphur is added.
Josep Grau La Florens comes from a century-old Montsant plot that gives you the opportunity to try a fine and elegant single-varietal Garnacha wine that is authentically fruity. A tribute to Josep's mother, who when she had to leave Montsant for work took a bird with her to remind her of her land.
