Josep Grau Granit is an organic barrel-aged white wine made in the D.O. Montsant (Tarragona) by Josep Grau Viticultor using the Garnacha Blanca variety.
This winery was set up by Josep Grau, a former broker who left his life in the city to start a new life as a winemaker in Priorat. To do this, he and his family settled in the village of Marçà and began to cultivate vineyards in an ecological way and without using pesticides. In the winery he also seeks minimum intervention to create wines with the typicity and character of Montsant.
Josep Grau Granit is made from vineyards planted on three terraces with granitic soils. These are terraces lying 450 metres above sea level and greatly influenced by the wind. The strains are ecologically cultivated with biodynamic and organic practices and the harvest is carried out manually in small boxes at the optimum point of ripeness.
Once in the winery, following selection and destemming, the Josep Grau Granit grapes are gently pressed for about 7 hours. The must obtained is placed in 2.500-litre Austrian oak foudres. There it firstly ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and then rests for 8 months. It is finally bottled, adding only the minimum amount of sulphur.
Josep Grau Granit is an aged white wine named after the granitic soils it comes from. This results in a fine, pleasant and mineral wine.
