Josep Foraster Blanc Selecció is a white wine from the D.O. Conca de Barberà produced by the winery Mas Foraster in Montblanc, Tarragona. 

 

Mas Foraster is a family winery founded in 1998, with its own vineyards located on a 34-hectare farm with olive trees and vines, at 370 to 500 metres of altitude on sides facing the sun. 

Their philosophy is to produce wines with grapes 100% from their vineyards, cultivated organically with an agriculture that is integrated in the natural environment, searching for the maximum expression of the varieties and the terroir, without leaving aside the freshness provided by the Continental-Mediterranean climate characteristic of the area. 

 

Josep Foraster Blanc Selecció is a wine made from White Grenache, Maccabeu and Chardonnay , from vines that are between 15 and 40 years old. They are planted on calcareous soils with a lot of river stones and slate.

They are manually harvested and placed in 20 kg boxes. Grapes are selected in the vineyards. Once they arrive at the winery, they go through skin-contact maceration for 24 hours, and then they undergo the saignée, by gravity and without pressing. Fermentation is carried out with local yeasts. 50% ferments in French oak barrels and the other 50% in stainless steel deposits. The part that ferments in barrels is aged for 6 months in the barrel itself. 

 

Josep Foraster Blanc Selecció is an unctuous, balanced and mineral wine. A white with body, which does not hide the fruit nor the toasted notes of the ageing process.

As with many other Catalonian wine regions, the DO. Conca de Barberà is developing its own territorial identity that over the years has been redefining the personality of the wines and the region, with the help of the red Trepat grape variety. The Trepat grape can be used to produce good sparkling rosés, rosés with character, fresh red wines, as well as elegant blanc de noirs. In just a few years the region and this grape variety have shown their potential, their versatility, and the possibility of carrying out R&D (Research and Development) with them. There are still few wineries who produce single variety wines using this grape, but most importantly, all of them have become aware of the obligation to enhance the uniqueness that defines the territory and the new style of wine to be imposed in the twenty-first century.
