Jean-Claude Lapalu Eau Forte is a natural, clay-aged red wine made by Jean-Claude Lapalu with the Gamay variety in Beaujolais (Vin de France).

Settling on the family estate on the Brouilly coast in 1982, Jean-Claude Lapalu initially worked his 12 hectares of vineyards to sell the grapes to a cooperative. But after quite few harvests, he began to make his own wines with his own style and minimal intervention in 1996. Nowadays he is a favourite producer among natural wine fans.

Jean-Claude Lapalu Eau Forte comes from 45-year-old vines planted in granite soils. Although he does not have any official certification, Jean-Claude uses organic agriculture with no pesticides or herbicides that could harm the natural balance of the terroir. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

Taking maximum care of the grape bunches to preserve the native yeasts, Jean-Claude Lapalu Eau Forte is vinified naturally. These grapes undergo carbonic maceration with spontaneous fermentation in an amphora where the wine remains for 12 months. It is finally bottled without being filtered or adding sulphur.

Jean-Claude Lapalu Eau Forte is a delicate and balanced cuvée that will leave you wanting more. And that is where the name “Eau Forte” comes from, a reference to how easy this wine is to drink.
