HMR White is a white wine made by the Heretat Mont Rubí winery, located in the town of Font-Rubí in the north of the D.O. Penedés.

The winery and the vineyard are situated between 520 and 700 metres above sea level. The vineyards merge with deep Mediterranean pine forests, growing alongside a wild environment with aromatic undergrowth. They make wines with native and mainly single varieties.

The philosophy of the winery is to support traditional, sustainable viticulture, which is respectful of the environment, seeking balance between its grape strains and the environment, and at the same time incorporate new technology. In the winery, all of the production processes are designed and controlled to avoid intervention as much as possible, using minimal quantities of sulphites and using their own antioxidant lees.

HMR White is a wine made with the Xarel.lo variety, planted on rather unproductive soils. After a maceration of the skins, it ferments at a low temperature to preserve the aromas as much as possible, and undergoes a brief ageing on its lees.

Heretat Mont Rubí was the first winery in the world to made and market, in 2001, a varietal wine of Sumoll. This is now part of the history of Penedès and of the wines from Catalonia, and it must be included in the world’s wine encyclopedias. This new scenario was the direct effect of a lot of effort and a methodology used as the base of that essential professional skill of joining strictness and imagination, which are so characteristic of the artist. It can be called a renewed philosophy, but the truth is that after years of effort and tough decisions, Heretat Mont Rubí is now immersed in a brand new winemaking project aimed at achieving high-level qualitative values in their personal wines.

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
