Herència Altés La Pilosa is a wood-aged red wine made by Herència Altés with the Garnacha Peluda variety in the D.O. Terra Alta, in Catalonia (Spain).
Herència Altés is run by Nuria Altés and her partner Rafael de Haan. This winery was set up in the town of Batea with the aim of showcasing the potential of the Garnacha variety in the typical Terra Alta landscape. They have a great team around them at the winery, which allows them to produce wines with identity from their own vineyards, some of which are a hundred years old and have a very low yield.
Herència Altés La Pilosa comes from various vineyards planted at an average altitude of 300 to 400 metres above sea level. The vines are aged between 20 and 30 years old and predominantly planted on soils rich in limestone and poor in organic material. All the vines are cultivated using organic practices and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and trodden. The Herència Altés La Pilosa vinification process begins with fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature with daily cap plunges. Finally, the wine ages in 500-litre Austrian oak foudres for 10 months.
Made from several vineyards in the heart of the D.O. Terra Alta, Herència Altés La Pilosa is an opulent and refined red wine. An ode to the local Garnacha.
