Heinrich Welschriesling Freyheit is a single-variety Welschriesling white wine produced by the Weingut Heinrich winery in the Burgenland denomination in Austria.
The Heinrich Graue Freyheit wine is made from grapes that grow on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains with calcareous sandstone soils. These vineyards are cultivated following the principles of Respekt biodynamic agriculture and are harvested manually. The selected clusters spend a whole night with their skins and stems and spontaneously ferment with their native yeasts. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for ten months in large wooden barrels and under its lees. It is finally bottled without clarifying or filtering and without adding sulphites.
At Weingut Heinrich, the team work according to principles set out by Respekt, an organisation that aims to cultivate an enriching relationship between members and a sustainable and conscious relationship with nature. Respekt members work according to biodynamic principles in the vineyard and winery and encourage biodiversity in the vineyard by using holistic and well-balanced practices. This creates wines that are increasingly authentic, environmentally-friendly and true to the landscape they come from.
