Customer rating: Excellent

The Priorat denomination is known for its extremely high quality and is the only qualified denomination of origin, alongside Rioja. This status can only be obtained through a long record of producing excellent, high-quality wines for over 10 years.

The Priorat region is located in southern Catalonia, in the province of Tarragona. The geographical and climatic conditions make it unique. Being a small mountainous region with steep slopes, the vineyards lie on terraces where, for the most part, there is no way of using machinery, which means all the work is manual. But if there is one thing that makes Priorat wines special, it is the terroir they come from. These are volcanic origin soils that are rich in licorella or reddish slate. This, together with the mild and dry climate, results in wines that are dense and intense in appearance, on the nose, and on the palate.

Wine production in Priorat is mostly focussed on red wines, making up 90% of production, and mainly using the Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cariñena and Syrah varieties. These red wines have earned themselves an international reputation and many of them have been awarded high scores by the sector’s professional experts, like Parker.
