Gotes del Montsant is a red wine from the D.O Monstant produced by Alfredo Arribas – Portal del Priorat. This wine is an equal blend of two different grape varieties: Garnacha and Cariñena.

The grapes used to produce this wine come from vineyards that are situated between 300 and 700 metres above sea level. The vines are on average 40 years old and are planted on calcareous-clay and slate soils, with a south-east and east facing orientation.

After the harvest has been carried out manually, the grapes are taken to the winery in small 16kg capacity boxes, which ensures that the grapes do not rupture and prematurely ferment during the journey. The winemaking process begins in Stainless Steel tanks with native yeasts, with a minimal addition of sulphur.

The fermentations carried out are of short duration, which some taking place with the stems still intact. Before the ageing process, part of the wine is moved to old large oak vats to avoid any possible micro-oxygenation.

Gotes del Monstant is then aged for 8 months in French oak barrels. Following this, the wine is bottled and placed onto the market.

Gotes is one of the brands of Portal del Priorat, a winery founded by Alfredo Arribas. The winery was founded with the aim of expressing the nature and character of the region using native varieties.

Alfredo Arribas was actually a famed architect from Barcelona, and did not enter into the world of wine until 2001. Surrounded by a strong team, the winery continues to produce wines that are very well received by critics and that score highly on trusted and specialised wine guides.

Pictures and situation Alfredo Arribas - Portal del Priorat
Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
