Frontaura Crianza is a red wine from D.O Toro produced by the Frontaura winery. This is a single variety wine made exclusively with Tinta de Toro grapes, the name given to Tempranillo in the region.

All of the grapes used for Frontaura Crianza come from the same plot owned by the winery: Pago de Valdelacasa. The vines, which are old, grow on trellises and are located 650 metres above sea level. The vineyards are home to loamy clay soils and yield per hectare is 3,500 kilos.

After the harvest has been carried out, the grapes ferment for one week in stainless steel tanks. Following this, maceration lasts for 16 days and malolactic fermentation takes place in the same tanks. Frontaura Crianza then ages for 14 months in French oak barrels from Allier before being bottles and placed onto the market.

The Frontaura winery, founded in 1999, is home to 160 hectares of vineyards, which an annual capacity of producing 400,000kg of grapes.

In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
