There’s a saying that goes “hard-working father, pleasure-seeking son, beggar grandson.” But in this case, the exception proves the rule. Because if there is one thing that the third generation of Crochet family winemakers has achieved, it is to take the work that their grandfather started and their father continued to a new level. Located in the village of Bué, a few kilometres west of the town of Sancerre, in the Loire (France), François Crochet has lived among the vineyards since his early childhood. This connection made it clear to him that he wanted to devote himself entirely to this work. After training at the Lycée Viticolaire de Beaune and training in several wineries in France and New Zealand, he returned home in 1998 ready to give his best on the family estate. And he does this really well, because his handmade, limited-production Sancerres disappear as soon as they appear on the market.

An example of his expertise can be found in François Crochet Sancerre Rosé, a rosé wine made with the Pinot Noir variety in plots with the AOC Sancerre’s most typical terroirs. A total of three and a half hectares of vineyards composed mainly of limestone, clay-limestone and even siliceous soils cultivated using organic agriculture and methods that take great care to ensure the vines are healthy. In the winery the whole grapes are gently pressed and the must ferments for 3 weeks in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Then 85% of the wine is aged in stainless steel and the remaining 15% in old oak barrels for 6 months.

So, it’s clear to see that the third Crochet generation is working hard and seeing results, with an innate and enterprising talent that is clear to see in the François Crochet Sancerre Rosé. A classic Sancerre with a precise, refined and innovative style.
